Copy Cat Stuff

Saw "25 Favorite Television Characters" post at http://www.miss-ann-thrope.com/ 's page and I decided to be a big copy-cat today. (double speak for: she has no ideas and she's thrilled to find something she can use today)

The rules:
Must be regulars on the show.
No mini-series. (killed my plan to use Roots characters)
No reality show people.
No puppets or cartoons. (some of my favorites characters are cartoons)

It seems that stealing an idea isn't quite the same as using the idea well. I'm starting this list at 10:02 EST. Let's see how long it takes me to make 25.
List completed at 11:38 EST. That was fun!

These are in no particular order: Well, they're in the order I remembered them but not in order of preference. You know.

1. Claire Huxtable of The Cosby Show (Phylicia Rashad)
2. McGyver from McGyvre (Richard Dean Anderson)
3. Al Bundy from Married With Children (Ed O'Neill)
4. Men on Film aka Men on Books from In Living Color (David Alan Grier, Damon Wayans)
5. Homie Da Clown from In Living Color (Damon Wayans)
6. Stuart from Mad TV (Michael McDonald)
7. JonLuc Picard from STTNG (Patrick Stewart)
8. Joe Mannix from Mannix (Mike Conner)
9. Liz McIntyre from Room 222 (Denise Nichols)
10. Marie and Deborah from Everybody Loves Raymond (Doris Roberts, Patricia Heaton)
11. Phoebe Bouchet and Monica Geller from Friends (Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox)
12. Gregory House from House (Hugh Laurie)
13. Erica Kane (hyphen-hyphen, etc.) from All My Children (Susan Lucci)
14. T.J. Hooker (psyche!) Captain James Tiberius Kirk from Star Trek (William Shatner)
15. Brisco County, Jr. from The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr. (Bruce Campbell)
16. Grace Van Owen from L.A. Law (Susan Dey)
17. Det.Kima Greggs and Bubbles from The Wire (Sonja Sohn, Andre Royo)
18. The Tates, The Campbells and The Major from Soap (see IMDb - too many to type)
19. Jim Rockford and Angel from The Rockford Files (James Garner, Stuart Margolin)
20. Dr. Phillip Chandler from St. Elsewhere (Denzel Washington)
21. Murphy Brown from Murphy Brown (Candace Bergman)
22. Suzanne Sugarbaker from Designing Women (Delta Burke)

No cartoons? The Simpsons is officially THE LONGEST RUNNING SITCOM IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD! How can someone make a rule like "no cartoons"?

In Living Colour is one of my favouritist shows of all time.

Men on ** was my absolute favourite...next to Mo' Money and the dude...crap, forget his name...who did the 'big talk' that made no sense. remember?

That show was so freaking irreverent and so totally NOT PC...I have them all on DVD.

Do you think they would air something like that today on regular TV? I don't think so...someone would be offended and pitch a fit til it got pulled.

In Living Color...lol...

that show was AWESOME!

Wow, great list! I love the diversity of it. I always admired Claire Huxtable; she always seemed so well put together and confident. And I looooove Suzanne Sugarbaker, the way she said any damn thing she was feeling without editing herself. Now I'm in the mood for a Designing Women marathon.

Oh, Jali. It's "MacGyver." I love him so much, I wrote lyrics for the theme song. [Sigh]

Also: "Jean-Luc" Picard and Phoebe "Buffay." I hate that show, but I did see a bit where she said her father, Frank, had a thing for food names. I love the way you knew "Tiberius," though. Do you prefer one captain over the other?

Men on Film! David Alan Grier is great. I love him in Amazon Women from the Moon.

Jim Rockford... the first man ever with an answering machine!

How do you remember all this? What do you do for a living because you must be damn good at it, if you can remember all these details about all the 25 shows that you enjoy?

Nice to see Al Bundy made your top ten. ;)

anon,
I love cartoons - Hey, do one of these with cartoon characters on your page. If you make it - I will come.

mis,
I wouldn't answer the phone when In Living Color was on. I loved it too. Remember the video parodies "Mr. Ugly Man, Shabba" or "I Can't Dance" or "Hammer Time"?

mr. fab,
I raced to the TV when I heard the theme song. I wonder if there are Mannix reruns running now.

dawn,
Oooooh! Remember Fire Marshall Bill and "you didn't hear it from me..."

rys,
Designing Women was one of the best shows ever - remember Julia's speeches? I'm glad Jean Smart's still working.

macarena,
I can't believe I got Phoebe's name wrong -a-duh! If I'm ever in a jam, I'll look for some string, a lollypop and a book of matches - McGyver is the man! Captain Picard is my favorite.

rev.,
The exchanges between Jim and Angel were hilarious - add a little "Dad" + classic TV.

mac,
House is my TV boyfriend - you didn't know?

c,
...but where are my keys?

steph,
Al Bundy is one of a kind.

kav,
Absolutely!

You have no idea how thrilled I was to see the Tates and the Campbells from SOAP make your list. I have all 4 seasons on DVD and they still make me laugh nearly 30 years later.

Murphy Brown and Suzanne Sugabaker .. 2 of my favorite "strong" women.

I want to play along and try this too ...

fair,
He's okay...meh. In the Friends vs Seinfeld convo, I'm a Friends person.

c,
Mine too...still searching.

dirk,
My all time favorite moment: The Major leading the dead dog up the stairs yelling, "Pick up your feet." I still cry thinking about that - the funniest thing in the world.

elaine,
I use my "hamburger helper for blogs": IMDb. I thought you were her bitch - damn - what's left to believe in?... now someone'll tell me there is no Easter Bunny.

bellarosa,
I'll keep checking for yours. It's fun!

That you knew the T. was for Tiberius is equal parts scary and scintillating.

"hamburger helper for blogs" is perfect!

I thought about doing my own list, but I might have too much to say about each one.

I haven't been reading you long, and I started reading through the archives, but I felt like a stalker. Also, I was commenting on many old posts! Maybe I'll search for "House." I know you hated missing it, but I didn't know you were all up in his...stuff. Thank you for dating him, keeping him from the clutches of that stupid girl who's living in the '50s. Mmm, House. I didn't pay attention last night. Did broadface kill the guy because she didn't like him? What do you think of the blonde girl who was hitting on SeƱor Sarcasm? Would you like him w/ Cuddy? Do you think she'll eventually find the guts to ask him to be her baby's dad?

What's your record for consecutive question?
--The titular Uncle Buck (The inimitable and much-missed John Candy)

Oh, good, you like the smarter captain!

My mom said it's okay to talk to lesbians because they take good care of their cats and have a can-do attitude.

Favorite Stuart quote EVER!

jennifer,
I won a $5 credit at my bar - I was the only one who knew his middle name. I'm a nerd.

macarena,
Do the list - we'd love to hear what you have to say!
I went back to the gym and didn't see one second of my boyfriend - I'm on this health thing.

cake,
He's hilarious! I remember that.

Despite my encyclopedic knowledge of and obsession with television, I have come up with just 16.

I was thinking Suzanne was Dixie Carter. I love Delta Burke; she's so pretty! And Bruce Campbell's high-larious.

mac,
Yeah! Someone else loves Brisco!
